Sketch Club

So you think you know about comedy sketch writing? The Gilded Balloon in Edinburgh & Sketch Club in London co-produce “Best New Sketch Act”, a unique competition for sketch writing & performance.

There are 3 heats throughout the year and the winning acts compete in the final at The Gilded Balloon in Edinburgh in August. Go here to learn more about our acclaimed Sketch Writing Workshops

Executive Producer of Sketch Club is Karen Koren – creator of Channel 4’s “So You Think You’re Funny”. As the founder and managing director of The Gilded Balloon – one of the most renowned comedy venues on the Edinburgh Fringe – Karen has been a pioneering promoter of stand-up comedy and sketch writing in the UK since the 1980s, helping to foster the careers of Bill Bailey, Eddie Izzard, Peter Kay and Graham Norton.

Sketch Club’s producer is Brian West who hosted the show at the Kings Head for 6 years. He has worked for Channel 4 as a comedy writer & series producer, and he’s been a senior producer for the BBC’s online comedy team – during which time he was involved in scouring the Edinburgh Fringe for exciting new stand-up and sketch writing. Brian is also a visiting lecturer in comedy sketch writing on the BA scriptwriting courses at London South Bank University and Bournemouth University.
