WOOF!

A special recording for BBC Radio 4

Written by CHRIS NEILL

"An expert storyteller" - The Independent

Middle-aged and single, Chris debates whether a boyfriend or a dog is the best way forward.

"What finally prompted you to look for a boyfriend?" I asked my freshly-lovestruck neighbour Pearl one afternoon. "I was lonely,” came her simple answer. Listening to The Archers as I was washing-up I heard the doorbell go. Wiping my hands dry, I went and opened the front door. No one there. Boody kids, I thought. And then behind me I heard Peggy Woolley say, "Oh hello Carol, what a lovely surprise, do come in.” I was now interacting with fictional characters in a fictional village on the radio. Maybe that was a suitable level of loneliness?

In these beautiful comic set-pieces he recalls how, in the spirit of romantic adventure, he met both two-legged and four-legged possibilities.

Doors open at 7.00pm for recording at 7.30pm. Come and have a drink upstairs, first?
